146 [S2E49]: MCCSC Trustees on How to Run a School District -- Part II
Today, Part II of our interview with April Hennessey and Erin Cooperman, the president and vice president respectively of the Board of Trustees of the Monroe County Community School Corporation. We talk about the challenges school boards have managing superintendents, and about issues that impact public school enrollment and funding from the state, like:
- the decline in K-12 enrollment that began even before COVID, due to lower birth rates and families being priced out of new homes throughout Monroe County;
- charter schools, private school vouchers, and the impact they have on public school finances;
- the potential impacts of the incoming Braun administration, and other policies coming from the state
and how all these factors weigh on a community that strongly supports its public schools.
